TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The competition is open to all Hunter residents with the exception of:
• The judges and organisers and their immediate families; and
• Artists who are not currently residing in the area defined as the Hunter Region.
An Entry Form MUST BE SUBMITTED to Dept of Environment & Climate Change by June 5th, 2009. Receipt of submitted Entry Forms will be acknowledged by mail or email.
ALL ARTWORK MUST include a brief description of your composition, the materials and inspiration for your artwork. You must use the separate
form provided.
ALL ARTWORK MUST NOT exceed a size limit of 3.5 square metres OR 1.5 metres in any direction.
ALL ARTWORK MUST have been created within the last 12 months and cannot have been previously submitted in Waste as Art.
FOUND OBJECTS, ORGANIC IN NATURE (such as seashells, seeds, leaves, dead animals or their parts, etc) are not considered waste for the purposes of this competition.
IF REQUIRING ELECTRICITY your artwork must be tagged (dated & certified) by an electrician. Note: electricity supply is limited.
Each person may enter up to 2 ENTRIES PER CATEGORY ONLY.
ALL ARTWORK MUST BE DELIVERED to Newcastle Community Arts Centre, 246 Parry Street, Newcastle West on 26 & 27 June, 2009, between 10am & 4pm. The cost and means of transport, and all handling required for delivery into the premises, are the responsibility of the entrant. Your artwork must be able to be lifted manually, as mechanical assistance will not be available.
All artwork must be completely assembled and ready for the organisers to display. The organisers will take all reasonable care in handling and dealing with materials submitted, however the organisers will not be responsible for any loss or damage incurred to any of the artworks or materials.
The organisers will attempt to provide display infrastructure, however, this is not guaranteed. Entrants should provide display equipment if required.
Artworks remain the property of the entrant and ALL ARTWORK MUST BE COLLECTED from Newcastle Community Arts Centre,
246 Parry Street, Newcastle West on 26 & 27 July, 2009 between 10am and 4pm.
Entry grants permission to the organisers to reproduce works by print and electronic media, and exhibit works at their discretion, and to publish and/or broadcast the names and photographs of all entrants through print and electronic media.
The competition will be judged by a panel of 3 independent artists and professionals. All entries accepted for submission by the organisers will be judged.
One overall winner, category winners and runners-up will be awarded, as determined by the judges to satisfy the following criteria:
1. Demonstrate the concept of resource recovery/ turning waste into a resource – through the use of recovered waste products and materials
2. Artistic quality
3. Creativity and aesthetic merit
4. Craftsmanship and quality of work
5. Function and innovation
Weighting of each criterion is at the judges' discretion, with the exception of the first, which MUST be satisfied.The judges' decisions are final and no correspondence shall be entered into.
The results of the competition will be announced at a presentation on the afternoon of Sunday, July 5th, 2009 at the Newcastle Community Arts Centre,
