About Us

HWEG members are drawn from local and state government organisations in the Hunter Valley region of NSW.

Current membership includes a mix of sustainability officers, waste minimisation officers, environmental health officers, waste education officers and program coordinators/managers. These individuals represent the councils of:

  • Cessnock
  • Lake Macquarie
  • Maitland
  • Muswellbrook
  • Newcastle
  • Port Stephens
  • Singleton

Other members include:

  • Hunter Resource Recovery (an initiative of the councils of Cessnock, Lake Macquarie and Maitland)
  • Department of Environment and Climate Change (NSW) – Sustainability Programs Division

HWEG meets quarterly to discuss programs, projects, partnership opportunities, grant availability, and to share ideas and resources.

Project-specific meetings are held on an as-needs basis.

Some of HWEG's successful projects include the Waste as Art Community Art Competition & Exhibition, and Sustainability Snapshots.
